Thank goodness I watched this despite the erroneous so-so ratings! (by Kareneo)
I'm so glad I took the plunge and watched this. Initially I decided against it because of 60ish% ratings, but when I read the IMDb reviews, I saw enough literate reviews praising the film that I was encouraged to give it a go. This movie is utterly amazing. It builds tension gradually and ultimately for me perfectly! It has a wonderful underpinning of emotional truth, overlaid with Sci Fi thriller elements, and even weaves in a bit of teen romance to be the cherry on top! I cannot praise it highly enough. The poor reviews? I can only suppose people who a don't like - or are not <more>
familiar with - science fiction, or b people who don't like teenagers? or c people who are not conversant enough with technology to understand what's happening, or d people who are not familiar with the vibe of literate British film productions some older Americans perhaps? , or e semi- literate racists who voted for Trump, were the primary givers of these low star ratings. This film is a sweet and amazing little triumph. My dearest wish is that it was more widely promoted to the right demographic, and it easily surpasses anything in the cinema over the past 12 months with the exception of anything by that delightful Marvel company! .
Idk why but I really enjoyed this film normally I don't watch all of these super power films because I don't like unrealistic films but this one was awesome!!! Everyone needs to watch his its promising! The perspectives and the roles in this film were perfectly matched but towards the end it kinda got confusing and made no sense, I believe they had of rushed the ending of the this film but still great to watch.
Loved it! (by golgiapparatus)
Maisie was awesome in it! The premise allows for so much to be possible with his powers. Much to explore if they go for an iboy2! I've seen reviews that say the premise was far fetched, i think that the premise was new and different, and that originality is hard to do nowadays! Plus, I've seen sooo many movies that have way more out there premises and ate good i don't think that matters at all for a review tbh. Don't u want a movie to take u to places we cant go in real life? I sure do
A new hero has risen and his name is iBoy (by DarkVulcan29)
Awkward teenager named Tom Bill Milner is kind of a loner, lives with his grandma Miranda Richardson and has a crush on fellow student Lucy Maisie Williams . One day Lucy asks Tom for help with her homework. That night when goes to Lucy's place, he discovers a crime has been committed, Tom is shot after one of the mask assailants see him. Tom awakens days later, but discovers a unique thing has happened to him, fragments have gotten into Tom heads from his iPhone, and has the power to listen on other conversations, and the power to control calls at will. So Tom decide to use his new <more>
found skills, to help flush out the bad guys that hurt Lucy.A good new concept of a kid getting powers type story. Tom Milner does play the Peter Parker type pretty well, becomes quite the bad ass once he becomes super, but at time begins to doubt himself on what's it all for. Maisie Williams plays Lucy pretty well, not just the typical girlfriend of the movie, but very strong willed. Miranda Richardson has some good moments has Tom's grandma. I also liked the way the villains where not portrayed has comic book bad guys, but has real life scoundrels , typical evil trash you read about in the newspaper or watch on the news. The effects are very well done. Will this be a franchise, only time will tell.
The biggest mistake you can make going into iBoy is expecting something from the Marvel catalog.Cause that is simply not going to happen.Instead what you get is a solid Brit "estate gang" story like Harry Brown 2009 or a dozen others you could probably recite from memory with some Marvel/Spiderman superhero stuff cleverly thrown in.And that is a mouthful because I have watched and reviewed a lot of films check out my list, about 1300 and have never seen anything quite like this before.Does it work? For the most part, YES. There are some pacing issues here and there, and it takes <more>
a while for the young lead to develop a character arc that the audience is comfortable with, but the suspense/payoff is rock-solid and nail-biting; and the close is edgy but respectful and optimistic. The two best performances come from supporting actors -- another oddity.Maisie Williams steals every scene not otherwise nailed down and does so with a sweetness of character that makes you wish you knew someone like her when you were in school. And Rory Kinnear as the arch-villain almost but not quite moves into the rarefied air of a Bond film -- you keep waiting for him to say "WHAT DO I WANT IBOY, I WANT YOU TO DIE" -- but shows enough restraint to keep from falling over the edge.In short, given the brilliant idea, the solid execution and its ability to keep the viewer both offguard and entertained at the same time, this a fun flick deserving of a higher IMDb score than I am seeing.Recommended!
We have ourselves a cool "Watch Dogs" movie.... British-style (by thezenhu-94152)
I will try not to give away any of the film's premise but forewarning it may my be birthed. What a great twist on the cyber-hacking, revenge story. The main character comes out of a coma and is able to read, hack and decipher phones, computers and the like. As the story moves forward he uses this skill to get even with certain individuals. Maisie Williams from GOT, is great as usual and the main character is perfect as we weave our way through the story. I will not give away too much of the plot but the way Netflix are making these gems reminds of the 90's when film making took <more>
chances and we the viewer were rewarded with some truly great films. It immediately reminded me of the video game Watch Dogs but with a differently vibe to it. The Brits have a way of making great films without adding cheesiness to their plots. Anyone who is into tech and cyber anything, should give this one a watch. Another hit Netfix, keep them coming.
A decent addition to the superhero genre (by perkypops)
Lad is involved in incident with mobile phone and starts to exhibit special powers which he begins to use in many interesting ways. British cast, with younger actors predominating, does well in a film which is well photographed, well edited, and has a good soundtrack and better than average script. It's entertaining, has some novel twists, and is certainly well worth the watch.Perhaps it doesn't have the budget of the alternative superhero studios but Netflix have done well to release this as one of their originals. You will pay more to see worse.Recommended to anyone interested in <more>
the superhero genre or who like good, solid entertainment.
